Of all the pearl necklaces available today, the freshwater orient combine the best of both worlds, having very high luster and perfectly round shape like the akoya pearls, but having the advantage of being solid nacre right through. This means that they have no nucleus, so there is no danger of the nacre chipping, peeling or wearing off over the years, exposing the nucleus. Freshwater pearls grow in a mollusc that can produce several pearls at the same time and are therefore less expensive. They are extremely good value for money, some being hard to distinguish from the much more expensive Akoya pearls.
