Black Freshwater Pearl Necklaces
Black Freshwater pearls have been color treated. This darkens the nacre and brings out different overtones. Freshwater pearls are solid nacre almost all the way through. Certain wavelengths will affect the nacre, turning them dark but with varying overtones. Black Freshwater pearls may have overtones of blue, purple, copper or green. When combined in a necklace they shine with a rainbow of iridescence over the dark body of the pearls. Many black Freshwater pearls therefore give a slightly multicolor impression, that makes them look like they change according to the lighting. This rainbow iridescence gives them a distinct look that differenciates them from fake pearls.
White Freshwater Pearl Necklaces

Freshwater pearls have a unique soft luster that isn't seen in artificial pearls. They are cultured without a bead nucleus, so are nearly solid nacre.
