Baroque refers to unusual, natural organic shapes. Very few pearls would naturally grow in a perfectly spherical, round shape. The term "baroque" comes from a French word meaning curious, odd or strange. The Portuguese word "barroco" referred to an irregular pearl. Often the irregular shaped pearls have a high degree of orient, that rainbow iridescence that makes pearls so attractive. Shown here is a necklace of large, lavender Freshwater baroque pearls. Baroque Tahitian pearls are also very beautiful, and can have amazing displays of color and orient. Baroque pearls of all types can be ordered as custom orders by contacting our customer service department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
