White pearls often have a very slight hint of secondary color that floats over their surface. This is known as overtone. It's barely noticeable, but it can make a person's skin look more alive if you choose an overtone that complements their skin tone. The usual overtones of white pearls are rose', ivory and silver. Rose' (pronounced like the wine) is a very slight pinkish color. It often looks good on women with very light color skin, and fair hair. Ivory is a cream color. It will look good on someone who's skin is more golden or tanned. Silver is a very bright white. If in doubt what overtone to choose, many will select ivory, as it is the traditional creamy white that some associate with pearls.
