Pearl Color Value
The body color of a pearl does not usually add to the value of the pearl unless it is an extremely rare and sought after tone. People usually buy pearls with body colors that will suit what they wear, the occasion, or perhaps their own complexion. The value of pearls do increase with the addition of overtone colors and strong orient.
Pearls that have pleasant overtone colors are much more valuable than pearls without. The overtone color adds an extra dimension to the pearl. If the pearl has strong orient, then this provides an extra dimension. As light shines through the pearl, the additional colors allow the pearl jewelry to look its absolute best. A pearl with strong orient usually means that the nacre is very thick, as light must pass through the many layers to display the wide range of colors.
